NRM - What is it?
NRM stands for natural resource management - it describes how collectively we look after the environment that we rely on for our prosperity, productivity and enjoyment.
Natural Resources South East plays an active role in the management of the region's soil, pest plants and animals, water, ecosystems, coast and marine environments. It is also about individuals, communities and industries caring for their own environment - finding a social, economic and environmental balance now and into the long term future.
NRM projects are currently being undertaken all over the South East region, so keep exploring and visiting this website to find out what's happening in your local area.
The South East Natural Resources Management Board
The South East Natural Resources Management Board (SE NRM Board) was established in May 2005 and is responsible for the natural resources of an area that covers approximately 28,000 square kilometres bounded by the Victorian border to the east, the Southern Ocean to the south and the Coorong to the West.
The SE NRM Board is a group of community, state and local Government members who make decisions about regional investment in NRM, derived from the NRM Levy in conjunction with state and regional NRM plans.
The implementation and on ground works of decisions made by the SE NRM Board are carried out by staff (project and administrative) from Natural Resources South East.
The SE NRM Board and Natural Resources South East are now part of the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR) after a recent integration of the NRM boards, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Department for Water (DfW).
Natural Resource Centres
The SE NRM Board and Natural Resources South East are now located in the natural resources centre in Mount Gambier.
Natural resources centres are a hub for Government environmental departments with a centre in each geographical NRM region in South Australia. (eg Kangaroo Island, Adelaide Hills and Mount Lofty Ranges, South East). They deliver the services of DEWNR and NRM boards and in some cases other departments such as the Environment Protection Authority (EPA).
