The South East Natural Resources Management Board acknowledges and respects the traditional owners of the ancestral lands of the South East. We acknowledge elders past and present and we respect the deep feelings of attachment and relationship of Aboriginal peoples to country.
The process for developing the Regional NRM Plan for the South East provides for extensive consultation with community, industry and government. A detailed Engagement Strategy also exists which will ensure effective and inclusive consultation of all stakeholders. In line with this, the Board will consult with the previously established South East Aboriginal Focus Group, which comprises representatives of all the traditional owners in the region.
A Memorandum of Understanding between the South East Aboriginal Focus Group and the South East Natural Resources Management Board has been developed and agreed to by the Aboriginal Focus Group.
The group meets regularly to discuss various natural resource management issues in relation to indigenous owned or managed land. One of the key roles of the group is to provide the South East Natural Resources Management Board with advice regarding natural resource management issues.
