About the Community Landcare Coordinator Project:
The South East NRM region covers a total area of about 28, 000 square kilometers. It has a diverse landscape, ranging from the cropping and grazing activities in the north to the undulating forestry, dairy and horticulture lands in the cooler south. The region contributes about $5.0 billion per annum towards the State Gross Domestic Agricultural Product (GDAP) and more than 30% of the South Australian GDAP is produced by the South East agriculture sector.
The South East Natural Resources Management Board considers that an integral aspect of NRM is sustainable agricultural production and that this can best be delivered by the rural community. The Board is aware that it needs to support rural communities in their understanding of, and capacity to address, issues of sustainable land management. The Community Landcare Coordinator has a key role in facilitating this awareness and involvement.
The Community Landcare Coordinator (CLC) is funded through the National Landcare Program and services the whole SE NRM region. The CLC links a wide variety of community groups, industry groups and schools with access to funding, professional advice on NRM issues and hands on assistance with project implementation.
The CLC is responsible for maintaining the dissemination of information to such groups and individuals concerning funding opportunities and delivers demonstrations, field days, study tours and information workshops on regional NRM issues. The CLC acts as a conduit between statutory bodies, Local Government, agency groups and the community through producing newsletters and brochures that are well supported and recognised in the South East.
