A levy is a financial charge imposed and collected by government for a particular purpose. The Natural Resources Management Levy facilitates the implementation of a wide range of on ground works, planning and environmentally sustainable improvement processes for the management of our invaluable natural resources.
Previously the levy was collected via the Catchment Water Levy and/or Animal and Plant contributions made by Council on your behalf. Now the Regional NRM Levy is included on your Council rates notice as a land-based levy or on your Department of Water, Land and Biodiversity Conservation (DWLBC) water allocation notice as a water-based levy.
The Regional NRM Levy funds are used exclusively in our region for:
-
Pest Plant and Animal control
-
Sustainable water resource management
-
Protection of unique water dependent ecosystems
-
Improvement in soil and irrigation techniques to encourage more sustainable farming practices
Locally and across our region many projects are being undertaken including:
-
Golden Dodder control in association with Lucerne Australia
-
Feral deer control through the South East Deer Advisory Committee
-
Irrigation Efficiency Project
-
Mosquito Creek Project
-
Water Allocation Planning for Padthaway, Lower Limestone Coast, Tatiara and Tintinara-Coonalpyn
-
Upper South East Saltland Agronomy Project
-
Blue Lake WaterCare in association with the City of Mount Gambier
The SE NRM Board takes its commitment to increasing your dollar value for our services seriously. We are proud of the diverse nature of the projects currently being undertaken to directly contribute to supporting and defending our prized and loved natural resources for your benefit and the benefit of your children. |
