What is a Regional Investment Strategy (RIS)?
The Federal Government via the Natural Heritage Trust and the National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality funds a wide range of natural resource management plans and programs. The Natural Resources Management Plan will be the defining strategic document for the South East region. It will set out aspirational Resource Condition Targets (RCT) for how we want our resources to look in the future and Management Action Targets (MAT) to achieve those goals.
A Regional Investment Strategy can be defined as a region wide business and investment plan which is directly linked to our NRM Plan and the targets contained within it. It categorizes the issues, actions and timeframes required to implement the NRM plan in conjunction with the Board’s Business Plan.
A Regional Investment Strategy for the South East was adopted in March 2007. The Board plans to submit a 2008/09 RIS proposal for an $8 million investment from the Federal Government. This will significantly increase the injection of federal monies into our region. The Board will then call for regional organizations to propose projects that will contribute to the goals and Resource Condition Targets (RCT) outlined in the NRM Plan. |
