The Blue Lake Management Plan 2006 – 2010 was launched on 19th February 2007 by David Geddes, Presiding Member of the South East Natural Resources Management Board (SE NRM Board). The Blue Lake Management Committee is a sub-committee of the SE NRM Board and has representation from the Board, SA Water, City of Mount Gambier, District Council of Grant, the Department of Water, Land and Biodiversity Conservation and the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).
This plan is the culmination of six months of coordinated action by member agencies and environmental consultants REM. This is the third such plan produced by the Blue Lake Management Committee and reflects their aims of enhancing and protecting the Blue Lake and aquifer system as a long term water resource asset to the Mount Gambier and District community. The over-riding feature of the plan is an holistic approach to water quality, quantity and human impacts in the Blue Lake Capture Zone. It is a consolidating document which brings together a range of existing agency programs and planned future commitments. Aspirational targets and projects have also been developed which funding is currently being sourced for.
A summary brochure of the plan is also available from the offices of the SE NRM Board, the Department of Water, Land and Biodiversity Conservation, the Environmental Protection Authority, SA Water, the District Council of Grant and the City of Mount Gambier. |
