The SE NRM Board currently operates under the Initial NRM Plan (2006- 2007). This plan was developed as an interim document to allow the former Boards to operate under a single strategic direction. The SE NRM Board is now focused on developing a comprehensive Regional NRM Plan, which will be a statutory document under the Natural Resources Management Act 2004.
The new NRM plan will include:
Regional Description
An in-depth introduction to the natural resource assets of the South East region, including their social, economic and environmental values. This section will also include a description of the current condition of each resource asset as well as trends that have been observed.
Strategic Plan
This will provide an integrated approach to assessing, maintaining, supporting and improving natural resources in our region for the immediate and long term future. The strategic section of the plan will contain a 50 year vision and will be specific in detailing both 20 year Resource Condition Targets (RCTs) and 5 Year Management Action Targets (MATs). The strategic plan will lead investment and action by all natural resource managers in the South East including the Board, Local Government, industry and community groups, landholders and State Government agencies.
3 year Business Plan
The business plan component is specific to the actions that the Board will undertake and invest in to realize the goals set out in the Strategic Plan. Projects will include a mix of on ground works, policy, planning, research, community awareness and compliance activities.
Policy Section
The Board has a range of responsibilities relating to the management of soils, pest plants and animals and water affecting activities. The permit section will clearly outline the expectations of the Board and responsibilities of individuals.
Time Frames for NRM Plan development:
2007-08
• Investigation of Resource Condition
• Assessing best science
• Investigation into social and economic drivers and impacts on NRM
2008 -09
• Community consultation on draft vision and goals
• Drafting of 3 year business plan
• Region wide consultation on draft NRM Plan
2009 -10

Consultation is an essential ingredient in finding the right social, economic and environmental balance when planning for the NRM future. This new plan aims to be an innovative integration of the best management techniques from a wide range of pre-existing policies and the best possible, commonly agreed direction for our region.
