Weedbusters Week
1 – 7 September 2008
“Grow me instead”
Weedbusters is an awareness program that works with the community to achieve sustainable land and water management, primarily through increased public involvement in weed management, education and awareness projects. The SE NRM Board is hosting a range of complimentary activities during the month of September to celebrate Weedbusters week.
Weeds cost Australian agriculture more than $4 billion a year in control and production losses. They are also a farmer's main natural resources management issue, according to key findings in a 2006 Australian Bureau of Statistics survey.
The South East Natural Resources Management Board held a colouring in competition for Weed Busters Week. Students from years 3 – 5 from all south east regional schools were invited to enter a colouring-in competition to win prizes for themselves and their school. Students were asked to colour in the ‘We Bust Weeds’ sheet and write a short explanatory sentence explaining why we need to ‘BUST WEEDS!”
In total there were 145 entries, Students from the following schools entered the competition
· Mundulla Primary School
· Kingston Community School
· Naracoorte Primary School
